CattleWomen 2010
Mid Year Meeting
at Lake Natoma Inn in Folsom
|
"Ladies, save your pennies and share a room with other gals from your unit on the evening of June 16, so you can hear two excellent speakers at 6:30 a.m., Thursday, June 17". - Melanie Fowle, President
- Dr. Bernie Rollin, Colorado State since 1976, developed the world’s first courses in Veterinary medical ethics, ethical issues in animal science and biology combined with philosophy. Rollin teaches these courses at Colorado State and has helped universities around the world develop a similar program. He has been recognized numerous times by both animal rights and animal agriculture groups. Dr. Rollin will present some thought provoking information about animal welfare and public perception. He does a great job of getting people “fired up” and creates a lot of dialogue with the audience. Most recently he is known for the Colorado Compromise. In a nut shell he brokered a deal with HSUS Wayne Pacelle and saved Colorado from a Prop #2 experience. Yes, Pacelle cancelled the referendum, but as Dr. Rollin says, “not before I gave 150 hours of unpaid time. My wife will still tell you how many dinners I ate with one phone in each ear and the face in the plate.”
- In addition Jim Warren, 101 Livestock, Inc., will be sharing what his auction yard has been doing with Beef Quality Assurance, a program that made 101 worthy of the 2010 Beef Quality Assurance Award in San Antonio, Texas, this past January. Jim will share points about his physical plant, including comments about his auction building that contains the most modern computers and computer programs to transfer vaccination information and tag numbers directly to buyers.
